Author–Meg Medina

Meg Medina, bestselling Latina author of children’s and young adult fiction, was selected as the 2018 Susan Steinfirst Lecturer and Artist-in-Residence. She is the recipient of numerous literary awards and distinctions, including the Pura Belpré Award and International Latino Book Award for her young adult novel Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass; the Pura Belpré honor medal for her picture book Mango, Abuela, and Me; and the Ezra Jack Keats New Writers medal for her picture book Tía Isa Wants a Car. Her stories are about “strong girls, tough circumstances, and the connecting power of culture.”

Meg Medina also works on community projects that support girls, Latinx youth, and literacy. She works with numerous library and teacher organizations to promote diverse voices in literature for young people and is a founding member of the Children’s Book Council Diversity initiative and We Need Diverse Books.
